male thrush
- The thrush infection which is also known as yeast infection is a kind
of fungal attack that may manifest in superficial inflammation such as
in case of oral thrush or vaginitis or may affect critical body systems
leading to extremely dangerous situations. This condition is usually
accompanied with irritation of the affected area due to a localized
infection. The oral cavity, esophagus, gastrointestinal tract, urinary
bladder and genitalia (vagina and penis) are the most likely targets of
such a fungal attack. In severe cases the irritation may aggravate into
burning sensation, soreness and a whitish grey discharge.
There are several different causes for this kind of infection. Though
the concerned causative yeast is present in all human beings, their
effectiveness is restricted by the human immune system. In cases where
the immunity is reduced the symptoms are more likely to manifest
themselves. Pregnancy, oral contraceptives, unclean vaginal sex and use
of antibiotics are some of the more common reasons for thrush infection
of the vagina. Carbohydrate rich food is another important cause of this
infection in the oral cavities. Diabetes can make an individual more
susceptible to these conditions.
Thrush treatment for adults and children can be easily effected if
detected in the early stages. The normal duration of such treatment is
about a fortnight by taking antifungal medications which may be in the
form of liquids, lozenges or tablets. The physician will have to make
the prescription as per the age of the affected individual and severity
of the symptoms. It must be noted that presence of thrush infection is
indicative of other disorders and ailments which must be tested for
immediately. The antimycotics are the most common antifungal medication
used in these cases. Dose of fluconazole is considered quite effective
in case of vaginitis. Chlorine dioxide rinse is also recommended in
those children who are likely to develop such infection in the oral
cavities.
